We walked up the heaving hills
And over the desert sand; we felt at
Peace with sky and earth, tramping hand
in hand with sun touching earth at days end,
We set our course for home and friends.
Those days well spent in this pursuit
Of sky and earth,
Did bond our spirits to each other
And our universe

Grey Skies
When there are grey skies
And soft rain begins to fall on the
desert floor, dry sand and sage
ignite the air and plain.
Sounds of earthly movement are
gently cushioned by hush of storm,
where only you remain.
Birds move under busy shelters
until the sun breaks through,
shafting light in patterns bright
upon new desert hues.
Cayucos
Cayucos – our cottage by the sea,
where gentle breezes
play with clouds and foggy mist; where
crashing surf drives waders back to sandy wisps.
Where surfers paddle out to sea,
to catch a breaker back to shore –
and then try once more.
Where distant sails are seen beyond the bar,
and silhouetted ships from afar.
The Call of the Sea
The call of the sea beckoned from a distant star – harbor lights paled,
in the morning dawn, as silently I sailed.
The craft paused in a dead calm sea as I bid a last farewell to thee and a friend or two.
Gentle breezes filled the sails again, then I saw the star once more, the
star that beckoned me to you.
If Only In My Dreams
While resting on the patio from my labors, I was transported in thought to the splendor and tranquility of the past. My thoughts were soon interrupted by a faint rustling by my side. A sparrow, deciding I was no threat to him, had perched upon my shoulder. His chatter was in a different tongue, but both of us knew we were prisoners of the same universe, operating in different biological empires.
For a brief moment our hearts beat as one as we each felt the warmth of this encounter. He sang his humble song of love before spreading his wings in flight. No goodbyes were needed for I knew he would return again – if only in my dreams. JCB
. . . on the road homeward.
“The voice of silence resonates within my soul, awakening the sounds of timeless memories. From these voices from the past, I renew my love and rebuild the empires I once knew. These thoughts turn the silence into a mental kaleidoscope which echoes the drama of another world. Becoming conscious of my part in this world, however modest, bonds me to my lineage and gives meaning to life.
Everything has a beginning and an exiting on this planet. It is far to short a time – but each day that passes on the road homeward brings a reverie of the golden by gone eras of the past.” — J. C. Beck
Memories by Jack Campbell Beck
Memories stacked mountains high,
In dusty attic lie – now reside as
sentinels of the past,
Holding secrets of our lives,
days that didn’t last.
Shafted light from gabled windows
fall upon these memories once so
bright and new – now images
which clutch my heart and
make me sad for you
when I bravely walk the stairs
to look upon the yester years.

Designing Marketing Materials
"Even if you do not deal with marketing and you are only designing visual communications, you should know some basics of marketing because your designs are still influenced by the message and the image your company or client is trying to communicate." — Elisabetta Bruno for About.com.
About
My parents always loved the arts and design which had a profound influence on me. I started with oil painting but after becoming a communication director for a chamber of commerce for many years, I developed my love and passion for desktop design and formed my design company NewSlant Creations. Although my work is mostly done for business and chambers of commerce specifically, some other work that I have done is shown as well.
